ATTITUDE VIRUS – A THREAT TO ORGANISATIONS

Attitude plays a prominent role in everyone’s life. Depending on the situation & time, the attitude of a person gets changed. Two things define everyone “patience when we have nothing” and “attitude when we have everything”.

Attitude virus is everywhere & carries throughout life. This virus can be easily identified in one’s behavioral aspects: the way one’s speak, react & respond. In most of the organizations, whether it is a small organization or big organization due to attitude problems most of the people shift from one organization to the other organization.

Symptoms of a negative attitude are like disagreement with colleagues for silly reasons, always try to interrupt in the middle of the discussion, carelessness in following policies of an organization and many more.

Sometimes in the corporate world, it is very difficult to handle the situations, which lead conflicts among the co-workers due to attitude problems. So how an organization can deal with attitude virus? For the solution of this problem organizations need to bring more focus on few specific areas like first of all assessment, Top level management has to assess any attitude problem in the organization among the employees at all levels. This requires honest monitoring at all levels like employees, vendors, suppliers, and customers. Next is the examination, Select the right managers who have skills & potential to identify human psychology. Managers have to take motivational sessions to such employees who are having the wrong attitude. Managers also should appoint subordinates who can scrutinize people behavior within the organization. Next area in the process of solution is occupational therapy, it’s time for the managers to take the additional responsibilities of the employees & to guide them in a proper way. Continuous motivational sessions are required so that the employees can come out of the negative attitude. Counselling is also a very helpful way to get rid of bad attitude. Managers can call motivational speakers and counsellors from within the organization as well as from outside the organization. Also conducting a step by step program/course for a positive attitude will be helpful. At the last monitor & feedback, once the training sessions are done it’s better to get the feedback from the employees. Later on monitoring has to be in place to note the behavior of employees, whether the training sessions are really helpful for them or not. Also looking for what conditions, outcome, and attitude can improve the situation will help to maintain decorum in an organization and keep the attitude problems aside.

Finally, I would like to conclude that in a professional workplace setting, bad attitude can affect everyone and cause conflict among employees. In some cases, attitude problems are able to be ignored by the majority of employees, and a productive employee with a slight attitude problem is not a distraction. A manager needs to learn how to identify escalating attitude problems in the workplace to prevent them from becoming a distraction.
